Overview
Disco Banana is a high-energy, multi-themed show production blending dance, costume, variety acts, and immersive visual worlds. Known for its maximalist style and irreverent flair, the brand channels controlled chaos into colorful, unforgettable experiences. As the project evolved, it expanded its reach beyond local stages, repositioning itself as a globally resonant production with bold new themes and a distinct, adaptable visual identity. Disco Banana is as camp as camp can get! From concept to content, this project included the design and art direction for three standout chapters in the Disco Banana saga:
Challenge
With Disco Banana entering international markets, the challenge was to retain its wild, humorous core while elevating the visual language for broader appeal. Each edition needed to stand alone while still feeling unmistakably part of the same irreverent universe, cohesive but not repetitive. The goal was to create artwork that matched the ambition and spectacle of the performances, all while navigating cross-cultural aesthetics and expectations.
Approach
We developed a flexible art direction system that could stretch and shape-shift depending on the theme, without losing brand consistency. From clownish psychedelia to sci-fi disco and jungle fever, each edition was built around a unique visual world, anchored by bold illustrations, expressive typography, and a fearless use of color. This visual storytelling allowed Disco Banana to connect with international audiences while staying rooted in its signature energy and unpredictability.
Boogie with the Clowns
Not your Typical Carnival
A psychedelic twist on vintage circus tropes, this theme turned slapstick into high art. Bright primaries, exaggerated shapes, and surreal clown motifs came together to form a bold, mischievous identity full of movement and joy.
Jiggle in the Jungle
Wild Rhythms, Wilder Nights
An untamed visual frenzy where disco meets the deep wild. Think oversized flora, swinging vines, animal prints in technicolor, and dancers moving like creatures in their natural groove. “Jiggle in the Jungle” is both primal and playful, a steamy, sequined celebration of movement, rhythm, and the absurd beauty of the tropics gone glam. It's lush, loud, and alive with every step.
Disco from the Future
Funk from Another Dimension
Here, funk met sci-fi. Inspired by retro-futurism and space-age disco, the visuals leaned into metallic textures, glowing gradients, and tech-inspired typography, imagine Studio 54 aboard a spaceship.
